Title: Tropical Storm Franklin Causes Devastating Floods and Disruption in the Dominican Republic

Tropical Storm Franklin has unleashed heavy floods and landslides in the Dominican Republic, resulting in significant loss and disruption. The storm recently made landfall in the country’s southern region, leading to the tragic death of at least one person, with two others still missing.

With expectations of up to 12 inches of rain in the Dominican Republic, certain regions are forecasted to face even higher levels of precipitation. To ensure public safety, the civil defense agency has urgently advised residents to remain indoors or seek shelter until the storm passes.

Currently, more than 350 individuals are seeking refuge in emergency shelters, while another 280 have been evacuated from their homes. Homes, trees, and infrastructure have suffered extensive damage, leaving several communities isolated due to the relentless downpours.

Highlighting the vulnerability of the population, the United Nations’ World Food Program has issued a warning that roughly 125,000 people in the Dominican Republic reside in areas prone to landslides and flash floods.

Haiti, which lies in the path of the storm, is bracing itself for potential catastrophic flooding due to the country’s severe erosion problems. Haitian authorities have proactively undertaken the task of checking up on those living on the streets or in makeshift shelters in anticipation of the storm’s impact.

To mitigate risks, schools, government agencies, and airports have been forced to close in the Dominican Republic. Moreover, power outages have affected over 346,000 customers, adding to the overall disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Franklin.

This storm marks the seventh named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which is projected to exceed normal levels this year. As the region enters the most active phase of hurricane season, authorities and communities across the Atlantic Basin are closely monitoring weather patterns and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their residents.

The Liberty Conservative advises its readers to stay updated with official warnings and guidelines issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies. Together, we can proactively support and protect communities during these challenging times.
