According to Wade Robinson, she reported her son missing almost a week after she last heard from him. Shockingly, it took her an agonizing five months to learn of his death. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the family, revealed that an investigator from the coroner’s office had identified Dexter Wade through his fingerprints and reported it to the police shortly after his passing.
During Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba’s State of the City address, it was disclosed that Dexter Wade had no identification on him, except for a prescription drug bottle. The police used this bottle to contact his medical provider, but unfortunately, an incorrect number was used. Consequently, Wade’s body remained in a morgue for months before being buried in a potter’s field due to the authorities’ inability to locate his family in a timely manner.
Despite Wade Robinson actively seeking information from the police, she only received notification of her son’s death in August, leaving her distraught and frustrated. Currently, the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding Dexter Wade’s death, the failure to notify his next of kin, and the irregularities surrounding his burial.
In response to the allegations, the Jackson Police Department declined to comment. However, civil rights attorney Ben Crump accused the police of a cover-up by deliberately withholding information about Dexter Wade’s death from his grieving mother.
Meanwhile, the family and their attorney are determined to obtain justice for Dexter Wade and ensure that he is not forgotten. They are requesting an exhumation of his body to conduct an independent autopsy and organize a proper burial.
