The Trump administration’s attacks on principled conservatives continue, as social media director has called for Rep. Justin Amash to receive a primary challenge to his House seat in 2018.
“[President Donald Trump] is bringing auto plants & jobs back to Michigan. [Rep. Amash] is a big liability,” White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino Jr. said in a Saturday morning tweet. “#TrumpTrain, defeat him in primary.”
Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) is a stalwart of the House Freedom Caucus, who has frequently found himself at odds with President Trump on a wide variety of issues. Amash even went so far as to call for President Trump to step down after his now infamous remarks regarding grabbing women were leaked to the media last October.
Nonetheless, Amash has one of the best conservative voting records in the Congress since he was elected in 2010. The Heritage Action Scorecard has Amash ranked at 91 percent, the New American Magazine’s Freedom Index has Amash ranked at 94 percent, and Conservative Review has Amash ranked at 97 percent for his unparalleled fidelity to conservative principles. Amash receives a far better ranking than Rep. Paul Ryan and most Congressional proponents of the Trump-backed American Health Care Act (AHCA).
Scavino’s attack comes after a full-fledged Twitter assault toward the Freedom Caucus directly from President Trump, who has issued threats to legislators such as Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) in an attempt to strong-arm support for his incredibly unpopular health care legislation.
“While I’ve been in Congress, I can’t recall a more universally detested piece of legislation than this GOP health care bill,” Amash tweeted back on Mar. 20 regarding the President’s failed health care legislation.
With President Trump’s cratering approval rating and Democrat opposition reaching a fever pitch, he may be biting off more than he can chew by starting a war against conservatives and libertarians.
