Why Short-Sighted Social Conservatism Is Costing Us North Carolina

The electoral map is looking pretty blue this year, but one case study looks even more interesting than the others. Like most southern states, North Carolina has a long history with blue dog Democrats at the state and local level and reliable Republican voting patterns at the federal level. Nothing too radical there, just a case in point of an older, conservative Democratic Party whose fading echoes can still be heard from the other side of the sixties. I’m referring to something far more unique this year. This year, North Carolina may be the only state in which Republicans at the state level fare better than Donald Trump at the national level. As of this writing, Clinton has pulled ahead of Trump in the Tar Heel State but remains within the margin of error at 2.6 percent ahead. Pat McCrory has trailed in the polls throughout the general election cycle, generally behind Donald Trump, though both races are too close to call at the moment. Is there really a… Keep Reading

The NBA Flexes Rights That Are Denied To Others

In response to North Carolina’s new law regarding bathroom usage, the NBA announced that they will be removing their 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte.  Fine, good for them.  If they feel that the law is bigoted in nature, or unfair to certain groups of people, the NBA is perfectly within their rights to protest and take action to dissociate themselves with the state and their law. There has been a lot of commentary on sports media pertaining to this decision.  One particularly insightful take on the situation went something like this: The commentator was lauding the NBA’s decision, and went on to say that this is the power that exists when a non-violent injustice is perceived.  Obviously, the NBA doesn’t have all that much power to actually change the law in the short term, but what they do have the power to do is hurt the state financially.  Taking the All-Star Game out of North Carolina will undoubtedly eliminate a potential economic windfall for the state.  Perhaps this, along… Keep Reading

Conservatives Under Siege – Transgendered Bathrooms And The Brilliance Of The Left’s Decoy Strategy

This article is the first in a three-part series titled “Conservatives Under Siege”. Subscribe to Liberty Conservatives Magazine or follow Joel on Facebook or Twitter to be notified of subsequent articles. From the explosion of outrage and hyperbole that violated my social media newsfeeds in the last two days, I gather that gender-confused individuals are now trying to use bathrooms to which they are not assigned. That’s unfortunate. I expect it to complicate some social norms, and potentially produce awkward situations.  It may even force some businesses or public buildings to go back to the barbaric unisex individual bathrooms still used by most small businesses nationwide. Worse yet, government may declare public restrooms to be unisex and government workers and public schoolers will be forced to join the approximately 90% of the world that doesn’t give a crap where you, you know, give a crap. Fond as I am of our distinguished American bathroom system, I also realize that the extent of this controversy is still…bathrooms. As conservative blogger Matt Walsh… Keep Reading

Midterm Election Messaging Towards Millennials Turns Shirtless

The mid-term elections are less than a week away, and as the big day draws closer, the means employed to attract the youth to the polls are garnering extreme controversy. This was first seen with the release of the College Republican National Committee’s “Say Yes to the Candidate” ads, which were widely derided by the liberal media as sexist. It has since then, evolved from music videos containing popular celebrities to physically trying to get millennials to the polls. The most outrageous case of this attempt is set to take place at North Carolina State University this Election Day, thanks to Cosmopolitan Magazine. The #CosmoVotes Party Bus is part of a recent contest by the magazine, aiming to increase youth participation in the “party of the year” by providing transportation to and from this polls this coming TuesdayThe fascinating thing about the bus is it is not just a simple shuttle. The Cosmo Party bus will contain not only your typical free handouts and food, but an entourage of… Keep Reading
