Rand Paul Skewers The Military-Industrial Complex In Senate Committee Hearing

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is no happy camper when it comes to American foreign policy. Fresh off of a narrow defeat to partially stop President Trump’s Saudi weapons deal, Paul rallied against Syrian military intervention during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing this afternoon. “Are we going to limit the president’s power? Are we going to take back our power? I think a five-year sunset, is–you know, and I don’t mean to be mean, but–is essentially nothing. I mean, we’ve had millions of people die in five-year wars before, so I think it’s — it’s virtually meaningless,” Paul said. As Ron Paul said, “does anyone believe that on the eve of peace talks, just after the White House said the Syrian people should choose their own leaders, that Assad would launch a gas attack to turn the whole world against him?” Keep Reading

Why Rex Tillerson Gives Neocons Heartburn

Donald Trump announced this morning that he will nominate ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State. But Trump can’t expect to get Tillerson’s nomination through the Senate without a fight. In the days leading up to Trump’s official announcement, the Senate’s leading neocons – Lindsay Graham, Marco Rubio, and John McCain – all expressed opposition to Rex Tillerson. Tillerson also received critical coverage from leading neoconservative publications including the National Review and the Weekly Standard. So what is behind neoconservatives’ opposition to Tillerson?
