Rand Paul Gets Roll Call Vote On Failed Health Care Amendment, But Will His Gamble Pay Off?

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was undecided about whether to vote to move forward debate on repealing and replacing Obamacare in the Senate until the last minute. Before the vote, he hopped off the fence to join Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in proceeding debate after receiving assurances that his amendment for a clean repeal would receive a vote. McConnell actually lived up to his word, and Paul got his wish. A vote for the amendment to repeal Obamacare was taken yesterday, and it was voted down by a 45-55 margin. Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Susan… Keep Reading

Paul, Trump In Close Coordination On Health Care, McConnell Displeased

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and President Donald Trump have lately emerged as close political allies, and continue to be involved in discussions pertaining to the Obamacare repeal legislation, much to the chagrin of Republican establishment figures both within the Senate and the White House, according to a Friday report by Burgess Everett and Josh Dawsey in Politico. The article states that several White House officials and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have “long since given up on” winning over Sen. Paul’s vote for the repeal effort, with McConnell describing Paul as a “lost cause”. Despite this, Trump is continuing to… Keep Reading

Conservative Optimism Revealed By Ossoff Loss

In his article for The Nation – Jon Ossoff’s Loss Should Be a Lesson to Corporate Democrats – D.D. Guttenplan (is that even a real name? It doesn’t sound like a real name) writes, “To win Democrats need to tell voters what they’re for—and to do that effectively, they need to stop running scared and let progressives, who don’t need focus groups or consultants to know what we’re for, take the lead.” This is standard liberal fare: The problem isn’t that they have bad policies, it’s that they didn’t explain them well enough. Obama was the master of this approach… Keep Reading

Sad Clown Schumer Takes a Stand

Newly anointed Senate Minority Leader, Charles “Chuck” Schumer, has had plenty of practice during his lengthy tenure in Washington, D.C. at picking his battles and these days he’s picked a big one. Of late, the senior senator from New York has engaged himself in a game of plagiarizing pages from the Republican playbook in his effort to lead the charge against our incoming President-elect, Donald Trump. For years, President Obama and his dwindling cadre of spineless yes men and women in our nation’s capital have whined to no end about the apparent GOP master plan of “just saying no” to… Keep Reading

Cruz To Liberty Movement: No Softballs

Nearly two weeks ago, just prior to his appearance at Steve King’s Iowa Freedom Summit, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz carved out some time to meet with leading liberty activists from around Iowa. The low-key meeting, held in Des Moines, was many activists’ first time to meet the libertarian-leaning Tea Party firebrand. It was also Cruz’s first time fielding questions from a crowd comprised almost exclusively of members of the thriving Iowa Liberty Movement. Cruz opened with high praise for former Rep. Ron Paul’s rapidly-maturing political army. “The power, the energy of the Liberty Movement is inspirational,” said Cruz. “I think… Keep Reading
