Jury Nullification Used To Free Libertarian Activist In Maryland

Dennis Fusaro, a libertarian activist, and Steve Waters were found not guilty by a jury of their own peers for illegal free speech. The men had sent a robocall back in 2014 to 5,000 people in Anne Arundel County, Maryland on the weekend before an important election. The robocall congratulated Democratic County Council candidate Patrick Armstrong “for his bravery in coming out of the closet” after he supported a transgender bathroom mandate. “Transgenders can now openly and freely go into any bathroom of their choice based on their confused gender identity,” the obviously satirical script for the robocall read. “Tell… Keep Reading

Young Americans For Liberty President Cliff Maloney Jr. Addresses “Liberty Summer” Victims In Lengthy E-Mail

After weeks of denials and stonewalling, Young Americans for Liberty President Cliff Maloney Jr. finally addressed the “Liberty Summer” campaign in Michigan that he and YAL Mobilization Director Justin Greiss worked on–and helped to funnel YAL activists toward–last month. The initial “Liberty Summer” campaign in Michigan was scrapped entirely amidst allegations of fraud and abuse, resulting in every young person sent home prematurely. We have obtained the email that Cliff sent to “Liberty Summer” activists this morning. Its contents are as follows: Keep Reading

What Happened To Ron Paul Supporters In The Age Of Trump

To understand what is currently going on in the minds of Ron Paul enthusiasts in the age of President Donald Trump, we must first understand what Paul represented as both a congressman and a presidential candidate. We must also understand that, at the height of Paul’s popularity during the 2012 presidential campaign, Paul’s appeal was such that both tea party patriots and young, pot-smoking college students were able to come together to stand for the same candidate. By 2016, dissatisfaction with American politics had become the norm. As the tension built up, the explosive Trump campaign seemed to strike a… Keep Reading

A Revolution Squandered: National Libertarian Events Show a Moribund Movement On Its Last Legs

Back in 2013, Ron Paul had recently retired from Congress, and spirits were high. Libertarians felt that Ron Paul would be remembered as a historical figure after his Presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012 with his legacy lasting for generations to come. Optimism permeated through the movement, and it was widely believed that his son, Rand, would realize its full promise. His anti-drone filibuster was a huge hit to pretty much everybody, and the sky was seemingly the limit. It took less than four years for all of those gains to be completely pissed away. All of the credibility, the… Keep Reading

Antifa “Doxxes” The Liberty Conservative Writers, Hoppe Caucus

It was very shocking to get on Facebook and see that two of this website’s finest writers, editor Shane Trejo and guest contributor Mitchell Steffen, had their personal information posted by a blogspot website identifying themselves as “Antifa Libertarians”. This is a tactic known as “doxxing”, a public shaming method popularized by the left and amplified greatly by the rise of social media. This was done in retaliation for the coverage provided to the Hoppe Caucus’s event with Richard Spencer by The Liberty Conservative at the International Students for Liberty Conference (ISFLC), and indeed a retaliation towards the people who… Keep Reading

Trump’s America Is a Land Of Opportunity For Crafty Libertarians

Whether you like it or you love it, the Trump era is upon us. There is no escaping now, and it’s going to be a wild ride. Many libertarians are finding it difficult to find where they fit within this new paradigm of excitement and insanity that the Donald has thrust upon us. There is no need to fret, though. Libertarians can easily find a juicy new angle that will allow them to promote their beliefs and keep them fresh as they wade into Trump’s unchartered waters. Thus far, Trump has been a mixed bag from a libertarian perspective when… Keep Reading

YAL Leader Promoted After Calling All Trump Supporters Racists

The unfortunate news came Tuesday that Ty Hicks, the Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) National Field Director who declared that all Trump supporters are racist, has been promoted to Executive Vice President of YAL. This news comes on the heels of the election of Donald Trump, who received support from a wide swath of youth activists from across the conservative and libertarian movements, some of whom are YAL activists. The anti establishment wave that swept through the nation this year has energized the right wing in a way that we haven’t seen in a very long time, a position that libertarians should be… Keep Reading

The Biggest Winners And Sorriest Losers In The Liberty Movement For 2016

It is the best of times, and it is the worst of times for the liberty movement. The political system is in utter chaos, and a vast realignment is taking place. Some liberty activists are finding themselves in good graces because of this realignment, while others are down in the dumps. We are going to examine the biggest winners within the liberty movement due to this year’s the political realignment, and what they did correctly to shine so brightly. Conversely, we will look at the people who blew it big time in 2016 and let destiny slip through their fingertips. Keep Reading

Are you tired of yelling at your TV or computer when some idiot spouts off with a downright stupid opinion? A Plea To The Alternate Right From The Ron Paul Revolution: Don’t Repeat Our Mistakes

In the wake of Trumpmania, the political system is as chaotic and insane as it has ever been. If we were watching these events unfold in a Hollywood movie, we would probably say they were too fanciful and absurd to be taken seriously. Nevertheless, it is the reality that is staring us in the face. One of the most peculiar and eye-raising developments of this ridiculous campaign season has been Hillary Clinton’s speech demonizing the alternative right. In Hillary’s speech – which was a more deranged, in-depth rehashing of her “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy” talking point of the 1990’s –… Keep Reading

Farage And Trump Show The Liberty Movement How Its Done

Last night, an amazing political spectacle took place in Mississippi. At an official campaign stop in Jackson, Donald Trump invited the notorious former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage to talk about the historic Brexit vote, of which he was instrumental in orchestrating over in Jolly Ol’ England. The video coverage is powerful, and the speech was inspiring and optimistic. Here is Farage in his own words: Farage is a leader who really understands how to frame the issues. He has established his forces as the populist rabble, the ordinary folks taking back their sovereignty against a totalitarian bureaucracy that… Keep Reading

What Rand Paul Can Learn From Nigel Farage

It has been a fun time for proponents of independence and decentralization throughout the world. Most liberty conservatives that I’ve seen are struggling not to overdose on liberal tears in the wake of the historic Brexit vote. The great Nigel Farage, the iconoclastic Ron Paul-inspired leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), has quite the feather in his cap after being one of the primary orchestrators of this huge political blow against the European Union. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like we have anything to be nearly as excited over in jolly old America. Liberty conservatives have had their hopes… Keep Reading

Three Reasons Every Libertarian Should Celebrate a Ted Cruz Iowa Win

Much of the libertarian interest in next week’s Iowa Caucuses is focused on Rand Paul – and rightfully so.  Since his apparent decision to drop the middle-of-the-road rhetoric and go full libertarian early this year in the face of declining money and support, many of his father’s sidelined activists have taken renewed interest in his campaign. Rand’s numbers in Iowa have seen a slight uptick, and his campaign has released some impressive organizational numbers. Still, Rand is a longshot to pull off a win in a state where the competing candidacies of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have reshaped the… Keep Reading

The Debate Republicans Deserve

As we approach tonight’s Republican debate, sure to be a spectacle similar to the last three awkward attempts to manage the political equivalent of a starting football lineup, it’s worth mentioning that debates don’t have to be this way. Late last week Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal challenged Senator Ted Cruz to debate Obamacare mano y mano in a response to the latter’s assertion that he would debate “anyone, anywhere”.  Though the move was a clear attempt by Jindal to lash his sinking dinghy to the surging Cruz ship, he served the ball directly into Cruz’s court in such a way… Keep Reading

Rand Paul Taps Liberty Movement Leader As Iowa Political Director

Sen. Rand Paul’s 2016 presidential campaign, which in recent months has gone from being a strong possibility to a near certainty, has hired a new political director to conduct operations in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa. Jonathan Van Norman, who served as former Rep. Ron Paul’s regional director in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District during his 2012 presidential run, will join an Iowa campaign team which is already staffed with several big names such as former Iowa Republican Party chairmen Steve Grubbs and AJ Spiker. In addition to his work for Ron Paul 2012, Van Norman’s impressive resume includes Liberty… Keep Reading

Rand Returns To His Roots

Nobody thought that former US Representative Ron Paul would show up in Iowa this week to stump with his son, Kentucky Senator and likely 2016 presidential candidate Rand Paul; but when Rand took the stage to deliver the keynote at an “Audit the Fed” rally hosted by Liberty Iowa, there was a whole lot of Ron in the room. Ron Paul shirts, Ron Paul hats, and Ron Paul stickers adorned many of the roughly 120 people that gathered in Des Moines to hear the younger Paul speak. Even the speech itself sounded a lot more like the fiery Texas Congressman… Keep Reading

Cruz To Liberty Movement: No Softballs

Nearly two weeks ago, just prior to his appearance at Steve King’s Iowa Freedom Summit, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz carved out some time to meet with leading liberty activists from around Iowa. The low-key meeting, held in Des Moines, was many activists’ first time to meet the libertarian-leaning Tea Party firebrand. It was also Cruz’s first time fielding questions from a crowd comprised almost exclusively of members of the thriving Iowa Liberty Movement. Cruz opened with high praise for former Rep. Ron Paul’s rapidly-maturing political army. “The power, the energy of the Liberty Movement is inspirational,” said Cruz. “I think… Keep Reading

Cruz Courts Liberty Movement In Iowa

Tea Party champion and conservative firebrand Ted Cruz may be ready to embrace his libertarian side – and he may need to, if he hopes to find a path from Iowa to the White House. As it turns out, the death of the Liberty Movement in Iowa may have been greatly exaggerated. While an establishment resurgence in 2014 spearheaded by Governor Terry Branstad succeeded in purging the Ron Paul element from the leadership of the Republican Party of Iowa, members of the state’s robust and often-boisterous Liberty Movement are turning their attention to greater things – namely, the 2016 presidential… Keep Reading
