The Real Bitter Clingers

Every Republican remembers that memorable day in April of 2008 when President Obama infamously said the following at a San Francisco fundraiser to his champagne socialist donors: “It’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” Obama, almost nine years ago, had to explain why folks chose to stick to their traditional roots rather than embrace the progressive revolution. And he did so by explaining that they were racists and rubes, too foolish and stuck in their ways to see the light. As a way to explain why some folks wouldn’t vote for him, Obama insulted millions of Americans. He explained that when the jobs left Pennsylvania and other blue collar manufacturing states, it made folks xenophobic. Keep Reading

The Desperate Left Flings Feces

The battle of ideas between the left and right wings of our nation’s politics has perhaps never been as bitter as it is now. And it is certainly well outside of our lifetime since the liberal side of the war has been so outmatched. Desperate for ammunition, the Left has taken to hurling handfuls of excrement in lieu of journalistic integrity. Yesterday morning, at Mother Jones, Kevin Drum published a piece titled, “Why Do Republicans Hate Obamacare?” The article peaked early when he started it with a cursory list of suspect accomplishments credited to the law, and it went downhill from there as he tip-toed around a few of the most minor problems with the ACA while ignoring the vast majority of the most troubling ones. Kevin didn’t exactly lie, but he certainly didn’t tell us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
