American Muckrakers Push Trivialities

in Culture by
muckrakers

As I write this and as you read it, millions of people the world over are starving and yet the number of malnourished persons worldwide is steadily declining as it has been for years. This is due to many factors such as increased crop yields, and perhaps in no small part to innovative agricultural techniques such as The System of Rice Intensification. Much to the chagrin of the muckrakers and doomsayers and pushers of trivialities in America’s free press, our small blue planet is, in many ways, becoming a better place to live for a larger number of people. That sound you hear is Malthus rolling over in his grave. Poverty is the on the mid- to long-term path to extinction. Even the liberal Brookings Institute has displayed some cautious hope for the future, a heresy that stands in stark contrast to the doom and gloom dogma of the so-called “progressive” Left. There’s a lot of good news out there, more than you might think. The world is coming…

Ideology Trumps Reality

in Culture/Politics by

If you were to ask the average American what they think is the most pressing problem facing the United States, the answers will vary. “We live in a patriarchal society. Women still make 77 cents for every dollar made by their male counterparts! These republicans hate women!” “The world is a very dangerous place. National security should be first and foremost amongst our priorities! These democrats want to make us less safe!” “The average voter just doesn’t understand politics and economics. If they would just gain some basic knowledge, they would vote for better candidates! Neither party gets it!” In the era of “fake news,” the stakes for what counts as reality have perhaps never been higher. But while the holders of these various opinions are no doubt sincere in their beliefs, they miss a fact that is applicable to all of them: For human beings, ideologically informed perception can be more important than actual facts.

Transforming Truth Into Political Fiction

in Culture by

“There’s been a lot of talk in the media of the responsibility to hold Donald Trump accountable, and I’m here to tell you that it goes two ways. We’re going to hold the press accountable as well.” – Sean Spicer, White House Press Secretary Spicer’s comments came a day after President Donald Trump’s historic inauguration while addressing the media regarding stories which were, according to Spicer, either misleading or completely false of the newly elected Trump Administration. The Trump Administration has been successful in debunking reports, and the President has never been shy to call out media outlets for inaccurate reporting. For example, during his first press conference on January 11, the then President-elect refused to take questions from CNN White House Correspondent, Jim Acosta, stating, “Not you. Your organization is terrible. I’m not going to give you a question,” accusing CNN of reporting “fake news”.

Media Silent While Millions March For Life

in News/Politics by

Media bias is on full display as huge crowds of pro-lifers gather in Washington D.C. for the March for Life against abortion, which has been receiving, unsurprisingly, little to no media coverage. On Friday, during the 44th annual March For Life, pro-life activists filled the national mall in Washington D.C. to March in solidarity with the unborn victims of abortion. Taking place on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision creating the ‘right’ to an abortion, the March for Life is the largest annual demonstration in Washington.

Fake News: The Alibi Of Tyrants

in Politics by

A few days ago, Hillary Clinton gave a speech on Capitol Hill to pay homage to outgoing Senator Harry Reid. It should have been a happy occasion; Senator Reid’s tenure in congress has been a blight on our nation for decades, we should celebrate his departure from government. But instead, Mrs. Clinton took it as an opportunity to condemn an outbreak of “fake news” sweeping the nation and she was careful to characterize her concerns as being solely humanitarian. Lives are at risk, she says. Admonitions about humanity aside, Mrs. Clinton and the Democratic Party are, in truth, particularly outraged by fake news for having allegedly cost her the presidency. She and many others claim that the Russian government is directly responsible for the dissemination of fictitious stories that resulted in an undue benefit for Donald Trump. The sources of this bad information are a number of hastily thrown together websites, often with URLs that imitate existing sites, such as Drudge or ABC News. The fake stories produced by…

Disagree? No, You’re Just An Ignoramus.

in Culture/Philosophy/Politics by

The Left’s totalitarian ideology doesn’t lend much credence to diversity of thought, viewpoint, or opinion. While leftists on college campuses are gunning for diversity of skin color and ethnicity, they decry opposing views as physically harmful. Both students and faculty retreat to the cocoon of so-called ‘safe spaces’ to shield themselves from the scourge of dissent. What’s more, those with minority opinions can’t just disagree with the Left. They clearly must be liars or deniers. From the lack of free speech on college campuses to the media condemning ‘fake news’, there is no room for opposition to the leftist narrative. Those who oppose gun-control are indicted as ignorant, bigoted, and bitter gun-clingers. Anyone who questions ‘progressive solutions’ to the ‘catastrophe’ of climate change is labeled a denier of science. Those who contest the morality of a social welfare state are called racist liars. In fact, any individual who dares object to the Left’s narratives is not simply incorrect. They don’t just disagree. They are purposely rejecting reality or maliciously…
