Thoughts On Charlottesville

I’m not going to bother going over the gory details of the national disgrace that unfolded in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday. It’s been hashed out over and over again, and there’s nothing to be gained by putting it under a microscope here. But I do have some observations that I’d like to share. First, there are a lot of people out there who want to punch Nazis. Fair enough, I’ve wanted to do the same thing since I first watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. My zeal for crushing National Socialists only grew with my first play-through of Wolfenstein 3D and then after learning my maternal ancestry is virtually impossible to trace because of the Holocaust. But in a climate of escalating violence and hate, is more violence and hate really the answer? Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t think so, and I’m inclined to agree with him. You can punch a Nazi in the face as many times as you want, and it won’t persuade him to abandon his… Keep Reading

The Tragic Shooting Of Steve Scalise Must Usher In a New Era Of Political Discourse

You can’t reason with a postmodernist who believes logic doesn’t exist. You can try outwitting them in a war of words and hope a rational audience will be swayed by your superior intellect, or you can ignore them and appeal to the good nature of your fellow man by improving your own life in the hopes that others will emulate your example. You can be a better person tomorrow than you were today, and improve the world by bettering yourself through your deeds. The recent shooting of House Majority Whip Steven Scalise proves how desperately this change is needed. What sense does it make to continue the battle of ideas with the Left? Politically, they’ve been defeated for the time being. Culturally, they’re bankrupt with the violence of their deeds and the depravity of their words demonstrating it daily. They’re a pathetic lot–trampled under foot by the power of the ballot box–who are spiraling toward an ignoble demise brought about by their own self-destructive behaviors and rhetoric. Keep Reading

The Fascism Of The Lawless Left

The birthplace of the free speech movement, UC Berkeley, was desecrated recently by a platoon of masked cowards who set fires, smashed windows, and assaulted peaceful people who had gathered there to hear a talk by infamous internet maven, Milo Yiannopoulos. Their efforts were successful: Milo canceled his appearance and the perpetrators of the inexcusable violence faded into the night. Not a single arrest was made in a stunning instance of law enforcement joining the lawless to make a mockery of the rule of law. These terrorists are not some modern version of good Samaritans, they are mercenaries, they are harbingers of what they claim to fight: fascism. The terrorism inflicted at Berkeley mirrored the violence of identically masked terrorists who wreaked the same spineless mischief in Washington, D.C. during the inaugural rituals of our latest president. Throughout the course of the contentious election season, the same craven and horrifying behavior was present at Trump rallies where provocateurs burned cars and destroyed storefronts and physically attacked many of those… Keep Reading
