Rand Paul Issues List Of Demands On GOP Health Care Reform

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has issued a list of policy proposals that he would like to see added to the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), in order to garner his support for the sweeping health care reform bill. In a letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and copied to President Donald Trump, President pro tempore Orrin Hatch (R-UT),  Senate Budget Committee Chair Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Senate HELP Committee Chair Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Paul lays out four possible amendments to the present legislation that would increase the likelihood of him backing the bill. Rand Paul Meets President Donald Trump To Talk Health Care

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)  met President Donald Trump today, according to recent tweets by the Senator. “Headed to meet with [Donald Trump] this afternoon. The bill is currently not real repeal and needs major improvement. I’ll discuss w/ him how to fix bill & get more to a YES on real repeal, things I’ve tried to tell Senate leaders with no result so far,” Paul said. A White House official also confirmed the meeting to Roll Call. After the meeting, Paul said the following on Twitter: “Just came from WH. [Donald Trump] is open to making bill better. Is Senate leadership?” Paul’s challenge to Senate leadership echoes his remarks yesterday, when he slammed them for excluding his office from talks about the health care reform. Keep Reading

Rand Paul: “I’m Trying To Negotiate With The President”, But “Senate Leadership Is Not Negotiating”

Sen. Rand Paul told CNN’s ‘Newsroom’ Monday that while he is currently negotiating with President Donald Trump on the Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA), which aims to repeal and replace Obamacare, the Senate leadership is refusing to negotiate. Sen. Paul stated that he had talked on the phone with the President about the bill over the weekend. “We had an extensive discussion about all of the ramifications, which way the leadership’s taking it, which way the conservatives want to take it, which way the moderates want to take it, and what I told him that would get me on board, and I think we had a very frank discussion about this. I told him if we narrow the focus – let’s just say we aren’t going to fix everything. In fact, I don’t think everything is fixable in the health care bill. Let’s say we’re going to repeal as much as we can of Obamacare, and then we’re going to work with the Democrats over the next six months to try… Keep Reading

Conservative Senators Form a United Front Against Senate Health Care Reform

A conservative bloc of Senators is taking a stand to save the Republican health care legislation from becoming another big government boondoggle. While President Trump and Senate GOP leaders debate about how many mandates and giveaways they will put in the new legislation, Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and Mike Lee (R-UT) have other plans. The four men released a joint statement on Thursday saying, “Currently, for a variety of reasons, we are not ready to vote for this bill, but we are open to negotiation and obtaining more information before it is brought to the floor. There are provisions in this draft that represent an improvement to our current health care system, but it does not appear this draft as written will accomplish the most important promise that we made to Americans: to repeal Obamacare and lower their health care costs.” Keep Reading

Huckabee-Sanders Addresses Trump Tweets, Obamacare Repeal In Off-Camera Briefing

“I don’t think it was a game,” Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders said in response to a question about President Trump’s tweet on potential Comey recordings approximately 40 days ago. At today’s White House press briefing, correspondents were focused on receiving answers about a recent tweet by President Trump that stated: “With all of the recently reported electronic surveillance, intercepts, and unmasking and illegal leaking of information, I have no idea whether there are ‘tapes’ or recordings of my conversations with James Comey, but I did not make, and do not have, any such recordings.” One reporter asked Huckabee-Sanders why it took so long for the President to “lay [this claim] to rest”, and she responded bluntly: “You guys asked for an answer… [and] he gave you one.” Keep Reading

Rand Paul: “New Entitlements” In Senate Healthcare Bill Must Be Stopped!

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) narrowly avoided tragedy this week after a gunman shot up a congressional baseball practice, leaving a colleague in critical condition and wounding several others. This tragedy has not stopped Paul from doing his job, and warning the American public about devastating changes to the healthcare bill. “I think we shouldn’t have new entitlements that will go on forever in a Republican plan to fix healthcare,” Paul said to reporters today. “We can’t pay for what we already have: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.” A revised version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) passed the House earlier this year but not without controversy. President Trump started a public fight against the House Freedom Caucus, and sided with House Majority Leader Paul Ryan (R-WI) to push a bill that essentially re-branded Obamacare. A compromise bill was eventually passed, but apparently Trump is lobbying the Senate for more government control. Trump told Senate Republicans earlier this week that the AHCA version passed by the House was a… Keep Reading

Rand Paul’s Office Has Fiery Words For Lindsay Graham

Sen. Rand Paul’s office shot back at fellow Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham’s claim that the Senate Obamacare repeal bill’s chances of passing were fading and assigning partial blame on Sen. Paul. A statement sent to The Liberty Conservative from Sen. Paul’s office chastised Sen. Graham.  “While we do have a press assistant opening in the Communications Department, Senator Graham has not applied and should not make public statements on behalf of Senator Rand Paul.” Keep Reading

Graham: “We’ve Already Lost Rand Paul” On GOP Healthcare Bill

This article has been updated to include comment from Senator Paul’s office. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told reporters on Tuesday that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is the first GOP defection in the Senate on the Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA), according to The Hill. Graham said, “I’m very leery of a healthcare bill passing the Senate that can get through the House. We’ve already lost Rand Paul so we’re down to 51.” He then went on to describe Sen. Paul as “irretrievably gone” on the bill, adding, “he’s not going to vote for any bill that has refundable tax credits to help low-income people buy healthcare.” Keep Reading

Rep. Massie: Trumpcare “Falls Far Short” Of GOP Promises To Repeal Obamacare

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is not afraid to go against the grain. He opposed Trump, the House GOP leadership, and even his common allies in the House Freedom Caucus by voting against the American Health Care Act (AHCA). He would not buckle under the pressure, and despite its passage by a narrow margin, Massie is not backing down. “We voted on a health-care bill for which the text was available only a few hours before the vote,” Massie said in a Highland County Press op/ed. “In fact, the Congressional Budget Office had no time to even provide Congress with a preliminary estimate of the full cost of this bill.” Massie was joined by 20 Republican legislators who voted against the revised version of the AHCA. Most of the legislators who voted against the AHCA were moderates who felt the measure went too far in repealing Obamacare. Alongside Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Massie was one of the few who voted against the bill because they… Keep Reading

Sen. Rand Paul Is ‘Not Too Excited’ About Health Care Reform, Still Undecided On AHCA

Although all but one legislator in the House Freedom Caucus approved a revised version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is not yet convinced. He told “Your World with Neil Cavuto” during yesterday’s broadcast that the proposed reform has a ways to go before he is willing to approve it. “It’s going to take a little bit of work to get me to a ‘yes’ vote, but I do have an open mind,” Paul said to Cavuto. “There’s not been a louder voice up here for replacing ObamaCare. I really want to repeal it. I just don’t want to replace it with ‘ObamaCare lite’ or another federal program.” Fellow Kentuckian, Rep. Thomas Massie broke ranks with most of his colleagues in the House to be an opponent of the AHCA. “The AHCA is like a kidney stone- the House doesn’t care what happens to it, as long as they can pass it,” Massie said in a tweet posted on Wednesday. He opposed his frequent… Keep Reading

BREAKING: Rep. Justin Amash Caves On Trumpcare, Votes ‘YES’ On AHCA

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) has established himself as the face of the principled opposition against President Donald Trump within the Republican Party, but his health care vote suggests that he is softening his stance. The prominent “Never Trumper” cast an affirmative vote today for the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which passed. Although a roll call vote is currently unavailable, reporters such as Dean Clancy of the Hill and Cameron Joseph of the New York Daily News confirmed on Twitter that Amash is one of the lawmakers who voted for the legislation. Although Amash gave an impression that he was deliberating until the last minute about the vote, claims from prominent political figures cast doubt on his story. Haley Byrd of the Independent Journal Review tweeted this morning, “Labrador and Amash are chatting on the House floor. Labrador is a yes, Amash undecided. Labrador’s doing a lot of talking—Amash seems unsure.” The exchange between Labrador and Amash was likely little more than theatrics, with the votes already being decided… Keep Reading

Cruz Defends Freedom Caucus, Attacks Liberal Elements In White House

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has condemned progressive figures within the White House who have been agitating against the fiscally conservative Freedom Caucus. In a Tuesday panel covered by the Texas Tribune, Cruz defended the Freedom Caucus, stating, “I will say those voices in the White House that are trying to get the White House to unload on conservatives, to unload on the Freedom Caucus, are doing the bidding of the left, of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, and profoundly damaging our prospects of success.” When a reporter asked him to elaborate on who specifically he was referring to, Cruz said, “whoever is encouraging the White House to go after conservative members who are working hard to save this legislation and make sure it actually lowers health insurance premiums.” Keep Reading

Freedom Caucus’s Raul Labrador Blasts Never Trumper Rep. Adam Kinzinger

Rep. Raul Labrador of Idaho, a founding member of the Freedom Caucus and a vocal critic of the failed American Health Care Act (AHCA), hit out at Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger on Friday after the latter released an scathing op-ed in the New York Times titled “How the Freedom Caucus Is Undermining the G.O.P.” In the op-ed, Kinzinger praised President Trump’s “good faith,” and accused the Freedom Caucus of “[refusing] to let the will of the people advance on the House floor” and “undermining the Republican agenda, and our party as a whole.” Keep Reading

House Freedom Caucus, Sen. Rand Paul Score Political Victory As “Obamacare 2.0” Implodes

The House Freedom Caucus scored a big political victory yesterday, as their fierce opposition to the American Health Care Act (AHCA) prevented the controversial legislation from even bring brought up for a vote on the floor. “I applaud House conservatives for keeping their word to the American people,” Senator Rand Paul said in a statement. In spite of legislating from a different chamber, Paul was in the corner of the House Freedom Caucus from the start urging members to stand strong and even giving them pointers from President Trump’s signature book The Art of the Deal in a well-received publicity stunt.
