Election Debates? Why Bother.

Another presidential debate? Honestly, at this point, why bother? Don’t get me wrong, I’m as political as they come. I eat it up as much as the next politico, hang on every word, read between the lines, and debate the finer points with my fellow nerds for weeks. I have no lack of interest in watching two mediocre communicators interrupt each other and try to make each other appear more ridiculous than themselves. What I’m saying is, why bother calling it a debate? Remember the days when presidential debates were about substantive public policy issues? Maybe… Remember when the presidential debates followed something resembling the rules of debate? If you do, I want to meet your dietician, because you’ve been around awhile. When Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay wrote the Federalist Papers to advocate for the adoption of the Constitution, it was considered to be material for the common reader. That is, any literate person over the age of ten or so was expected to be able… Keep Reading

Career Politicians – President Trump Says “You’re Fired!”

Congressional term limits have been a topic of conversation for decades in political circles.  Should members of Congress only be allowed to serve a certain number of terms?  Are career politicians a bad thing or is consistency good?  Well, the subject was once again thrust into the limelight when Presidential Candidate Donald Trump announced on Tuesday at a campaign rally in Colorado his plans to push for a Constitutional amendment imposing Congressional term limits.  Just as he would do in his ever so popular television series The Apprentice, Trump would like to look across the boardroom table at Congress, stick out his hand in that ever so recognizable gesture, and say, “You’re fired!” Maybe that is not such a bad idea, because after all, what has Congress really accomplished in recent history?  Lately, Congress has been nothing more than a place with lots of hot air and big egos, with neither Democrats or Republicans making attempts to try to work together to get things accomplished.  Why should we let people… Keep Reading

Regardless Of The Outcome, Political Carnage Is Guaranteed After The Election

We are only a few weeks away from the election. Although everyone and their mother say (as always) that this is the most important election of our lifetime, I’m not all that concerned about the outcome. Although Trump would likely be much less horrific President than Hillary, federal-level politics are screwed regardless of the outcome of this preposterous little popularity contest. All I care about is the show, and that the spectacle from the circus is causing serious damage to the political system at large. During this particular cycle, I have not been disappointed. “The Donald” has kicked the madness up several notches. The amount of toxicity within the political system has to be at an all-time high, and libertarians should be delighted with these developments. We are witnessing the great unraveling take place right before our very eyes. Although Rand Paul and Ted Cruz failed in their Presidential runs this year and that disappointed many dedicated liberty activists, what has resulted is a delightful silver lining that few… Keep Reading

About a White House Built By Slaves

“I wake up every morning in a house built by slaves,” Michelle Obama declared at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The ensuing uproar neatly comprised of censure from the right and adulation from the left, thus demonstrating the deep ideological divide that defines our present politics. Though the speech on Tuesday received the most media attention, it does not represent the first instance in which Obama cited the White House’s slave legacy. The line made an appearance in her commencement address at New York’s City College in June, and her husband also made note of the same in March 2015 at the fiftieth anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Alabama. In keeping with leftist orthodoxy, Obama imagines American history as a series of transgressions against the dignity and lives of helpless peoples, and reduces the White House to a mere artifact of that ugly past. Not surprisingly, bastions of the left such as The New York Times and Huffington Post lauded the First Lady for using the… Keep Reading

Johnson-Weld Town Hall Disappoints Liberty Conservatives

Did the CNN Libertarian town hall capture the hearts and minds of disenfranchised liberty conservatives? For this conservatarian, who watched the town hall from start to finish, I would say a definite no. I still feel there is no candidate running for president that represents my views enough for me to vote for them. I have been very hopeful and optimistic with regards to the Johnson-Weld ticket. They appeal to libertarians and conservatives, I’ve been told. They are both former Republicans, they have executive experience, they can be the answer for liberty conservatives who will not vote for Trump of Hillary. But Johnson-Weld not only hold positions that just don’t jive with my conservatarian views, but the duo doesn’t come across as very presidential. Abortion Johnson-Weld really let me down on the issue of abortion. Not only did Johnson say decisions about abortion should “lie strictly with the woman involved,” but he and Weld defended the governments role in abortion too. Johnson advocated for the government funding of Planned Parenthood while Weld expressed that “government… Keep Reading

Hillary Clinton: The Undemocratic Nominee

Everyone’s suspicions were confirmed when it was revealed last week that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) had planned on a Hillary Clinton nomination before a single ballot was cast.  Through various leaked documents stretching back to before the voting actually began, we received a first hand look last week at the inner workings of the DNC and their love affair with electing another Clinton.  As it turns out, poor Bernie Sanders never stood a chance, and Democrats everywhere have been made to look like fools for believing their vote actually mattered in this rigged party nomination. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the DNC, has been the puppeteer behind the scenes pulling all the strings, making it virtually impossible for there to be anything but a Clinton on the ticket for the Democrats.  This should really come at no surprise for those familiar with Wasserman Schultz’s history, however, in 2008 she was co-chair for Hillary’s campaign.  This documents seem to solidify the link, and if nothing else, at least give… Keep Reading

Why I’m Voting – Despite Our Options

Look, I know it just as much as the next person – our options for President this year are horrible (and that is putting it nicely).  We have a power-hungry career politician who is under investigation with the FBI, a mediocre business man who loves spray tanning just a bit too much, and then there is Gary Johnson.  The options are rough, there is no disputing it – so bad in fact, that I have heard many family and friends simply saying I’m just not going to vote, what’s the point?  Or if I vote, I’ll write in Mickey Mouse or Santa Clause.  Well I have news for you!  Walt Disney is not going to come out of his frozen state of bliss to take office for a cartoon mouse he created, and Ol’ Saint Nick is too busy dancing with Donner and prancing with Vixen to want to run our country. That’s right everyone, it is time for us all to put our collective big boy pants on… Keep Reading

The Day America Died

The Orlando, Florida shooting at a gay nightclub in Florida this past weekend saw a influx of political response from numerous candidates running for office. While each offered their own unique way of coming to terms with the tragedy, every response seemed to offer a divisional characteristic inherently present in our political system. It is important to remember the victims of the Orlando shooting for not only being victim to the horrendous acts of worthless ISIS supporters and sympathizers around the world, but also because they have become victim to the dilemma of governmental action to prevent future tragedies from occurring. As recent as today, democrats in Congress staged a filibuster to advocate stricter gun control, while the Republican Presidential frontrunner and presumptive nominee considered the expansion of governmental surveillance lists. This is what tragedies have become now: tools of the political elite to advocate an expansion of government power that it doesn’t have the authority to hold. So when is enough, enough? We’ve witnessed what happens when the… Keep Reading

From Irrelevance To Infamy: How The Libertarian Party Sold Its Soul For The GOP’s Leftovers

It is sad to see how despair can war an individual’s mind, and in spite of professing to be logical and rational, libertarians are not immune to this effect. In the aftermath of the Libertarian Party National Convention, we are seeing the tragic consequences of desperation manifest themselves throughout the greater liberty movement. The libertarian brand is now being besmirched and tarnished on a grand scale like never before because the Libertarian Party happily rolled out the red carpet for infiltrators to take over. Two lackluster, left-leaning Republican governors who were unable to maintain relevance in their own party are now parading around as the standard bearers for the Libertarian Party. To anyone who has been down in the trenches of the liberty movement where it actually matters since the onset of the Ron Paul Revolution, this is simply unacceptable. When the Libertarian Party was merely an annoying distraction on the periphery, miles away from mattering, they were a tolerable albeit annoying afterthought. As a liberty conservative, they were… Keep Reading

Read This Before Rioting At a Political Rally

First of all, never punch anyone in the mouth. If their teeth nick your hand, that could lead to an infection. You will have to take an antibiotic if this happens. And if you punch a person wearing dentures, they could accidentally choke on them and die. So just one punch to the mouth can lead to a manslaughter charge. You are expecting to go to jail, right? There will be police and hundreds of witnesses with cell phones. And don′t think that a mask is enough to keep you out of legal trouble. America′s prisons are filled with people who didn′t think that they would get caught. You clearly believe in your cause enough to be arrested for it, and to risk being punched or pepper sprayed by the people you attack. But you probably should check your state′s laws to see if you will still be allowed to vote in November while incarcerated. Of course this isn′t about your one vote. This is about showing those lazy,… Keep Reading

The Libertarian Party Blew It For Converts

Oh, Libertarian Party… You could have had me. You were this close! I am the demographic you are trying to reach out to: disenfranchised with the Republican Party presidential nominee; a lover of liberty not of political parties; someone searching for a new place to call home that represents the ideas I hold dear to my heart. I was optimistically hopeful. I spent my entire day tuned into the Libertarian Party convention hoping to see the legitimacy that I was yearning for. https://twitter.com/kayteemoyer/status/736989310520569856 Would this be my new place to put my trust? Behind lovers of liberty like myself who wanted to make legitimate change, wanted to be taken seriously, and wanted to defend life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Nope. I didn’t find that while watching the Libertarian Party convention. How can we make legitimate change and be taken seriously with the buffoonery I witnessed during the convention? People like presidential candidate Darryl Perry losing his poise, screaming and pounding the podium, not only during the Saturday night… Keep Reading

Are You #ManEnough4Hillary ?

With all the absurdity and pandering this election cycle, it’s hard to tell if campaigns are being serious or it’s just a troll on the internet. A new Hillary Clinton “campaign” photo has been gaining traction on twitter today: #ManEnough4Hillary? I thought the Left despised masculinity? Way to emasculate male voters… #ImNotWithHer pic.twitter.com/bm3zCsePFO — Gabriella Hoffman (@Gabby_Hoffman) May 26, 2016 The hunky lumberjack caught the eye of Twitter with the quote “I am man enough to vote for a woman… are you?” and the hashtag #ManEnough4Hillary. This has to be someone trolling…right? Or is Hillary Clinton’s campaign that out of touch. Upon a little bit of digging, twitter users quickly found that the model in the photo is a stock image, and was recently used in a syphilis ad on a bus. Whoops. Are you #ManEnough4Hillary? How about syphilis? pic.twitter.com/Pi3eSfS7d2 — Matthew Salvatore (@mattywid) May 26, 2016 Keep Reading

The GOP’s Rainbow Connection Just Won’t Work

It’s a hunch I have, a feeling from growing up in a deep blue urban area which has seen a parade of different majority-minorities dominate the area, that the GOP’s attempt to “diversify” by running candidates of color just might not do what they want it to do.  As a child, it was a  deep blue and liberal professional lower middle class Jewish neighborhood. Our teachers lived in the same neighborhood as we did back in elementary school. There were also the Catholic kids (we didn’t know them because they went to Catholic school) who were from blue collar union and police and firefighter families. But they too, were deeply blue. I moved away to New Mexico to attend university, but came back to Philly because my now husband then boyfriend wanted to live in a big city. And over the years, as we’ve lived in more or less the same area in which I grew up, we’ve seen the neighborhood transition. There were the first Black families in… Keep Reading
