Steve Bannon Breaks With Trump, Supports GOP Firebrand Roy Moore In Alabama Senate Race

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon may have left his post earlier this month, but he is not riding off quietly into the sunset. Immediately reassuming his post as head of Breitbart News, Bannon is unafraid to question his former boss or even contradict his decisions. This divide is on full display with Bannon’s support of Roy Moore in the U.S. Senate run-off election in Alabama against Trump’s pick, Luther Strange.

“During a closed-door meeting with powerful conservatives in Washington last week, Bannon declared that he’s supporting former state Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore over Trump-endorsed incumbent Sen. Luther Strange, according to two people who were present,” reporter Alex Isenstadt said in a Politico report.

Bannon is attempting to rally the conservative base behind Moore despite of Trump’s support of Strange. Strange is the incumbent who never won an election to his post. After Jeff Sessions departed the Senate to become Trump’s Attorney General, Strange was appointed by disgraced former Gov. Robert Bentley. Strange is a favorite of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is pumping out-of-state PAC money into Strange’s campaign to prop it up amidst a laundry list of scandals.

Following Bannon’s lead, Breitbart News is firmly behind Moore as well. The organization produced an exclusive sit-down interview with the former Judge, and broke the news of a high-profile endorsement by Sarah Palin last week.

“Judge Moore has shown he has what it takes to stand up to the out-of-touch political establishment. The Judge has proven he’s not afraid of a fight for what is right, and he’s ready to take on DC’s swamp monsters and help make America great again. We need more bold leaders like Judge Moore who will fight for all of us in the US Senate,” Palin said.

Moore was elected as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court on two separate occasions, but was removed both times for bucking federal orders. He refused to remove a bust of the Ten Commandments his court room, resulting in his first dismissal; and then refused to enforce a ban on same-sex marriage, which got him removed for the second time.

Moore ran for Governor in the past, but failed in the primary both times. Leading in the polls and having a media powerful platform like Breitbart News solidly in his corner, this will be the best chance that this conservative fighter ever has to become a national political figure.

“I’ll stand with Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz on the front lines of the fight against the Washington Establishment,” Moore said to his supporters in an e-mail.

The run-off election between Strange and Moore will take place on Sept. 26, and the winner will have to defeat their Democratic competitor in the mid-term election next November in order to serve in the U.S. Senate.

  • There were reports of Trump switching endorsements though, so I wouldn’t say he’s breaking from him.

  • Moore is nothing more than an attention seeker, he doesn’t respect the rule of law. He’s trying to run as a Rand Paul supporter but disagrees with him on several issues including foreign policy, drug reform, and criminal justice reform.

    • Rand Paul isn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

Wow, thanks for impressing us with your gutless insult. Why don’t you go pick up your welfare check…

    • He’s only an eye surgeon who understands liberty better than just about anyone in Congress today. His father was even better.

    • While I wouldn’t rely on this Roy Moore’s campaign web site states:
“We should not be entangled in foreign wars merely at the whim and caprice of a President.”
which sounds to me as compatible with Rand Paul. Other portions sound less compatible. Judge for yourself.

Interesting… Look for Bannon’s participation in this race to be one of the determining factors.

  • wow. he has a mind of his own. Good for him!

  • Roy Moore and Liberty are a contradiction but for that matter so is Bannon the Anti liberty fascist.

  • A fascist supporting another fascist who would have guessed. Can this fat scumbag take a walk off a short plank please?

    • Fascist, quit being an over emotional pussy

    • Roy Moore does not believe in the rule of law or the constitution that’s why he was expelled from the bench. And Bannon describes himself as a “Leninist” please tell me what Lennin did to advance freedom and liberty again?

Really? And your mother wishes she would have aborted you. Get a grip on reality.

    • gwh731

Kevin, as turds go, you are one of the stinkiest and most disgusting. Thanks for sharing your vapid, uneducated opinion about two good men who only want to make the country better for everyone. Do us all a favor and flush yourself down the sewer of radical liberalism.

Bannon is showing his true conservative colors and any real conservative would appreciate his stand. I suspect Trump is making deals with McConnel by supporting Mitch’s homeboy in the race. Regardless, all the Hillary bitter-clingers can go suck on a big, dripping slice of disappointment because Roy Moore is going to win this election.
