Rep. Amash Flirts With Conspiracy Theories, Suggests New Investigation Over Trump’s Russian Ties

Suspecting some sort of nefarious cover-up or conspiracy, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) is looking into investigating President Trump’s ties to Russia after he publicly fired former FBI Director James Comey yesterday.

“My staff and I are reviewing legislation to establish an independent commission on Russia. The second paragraph of this letter is bizarre,” Amash said in a May 9 tweet.

Amash took umbrage with the following words from Trump’s dismissal letter to Comey. It reads, “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to affectively lead the bureau.”

Amash is jumping on the Trump/Russia conspiracy bandwagon just as prominent Democrats are admitting that there is no evidence indicating that any wrongdoing occurred. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) were forced to own up to the fact that their prolonged wild goose chase is backed by zero evidence.

Trump has even given a reasonable justification for the removal of Comey as FBI Director, backed up by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Comey made a false claim during Congressional testimony last week that former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin “forwarded hundreds and thousands” of emails to disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s computer. This prompted the FBI to issue “supplement testimony” in order to correct the record after the fact. This mistake made Trump and Sessions believe that Comey could no longer credibly lead the agency, and he was let go as a result.

Amash does not believe the official government story on Comey’s firing, and he is looking into expending taxpayer resources into yet another investigation of Trump’s Russian connections. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has publicly agreed with Amash and is urging an independent investigation as well.
