Maine Republican Governor Paul LePage is no stranger to headlines. His blunt speech, unfiltered opinions, and strong attitude have even been compared to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

And now Governor LePage is making headlines again, this time with Khizr Khan.

Khizr Khan initially made headlines a few weeks ago with his appearance at the Democratic National Convention. Appearing at the coronation of Hillary Clinton, he showed up to speak against Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump. In the process, he used the memory of his late son who was killed in the line of duty in Iraq. Captain Humayun Khan sacrificed himself in 2004 and saved countless soldiers when a suspicious car turned out to be a suicide car bomb.

Democrats and their media allies immediately picked up the speech and celebrated the image of a defiant father waving a pocket Constitution. At the Clinton celebration, Khan preached about knowing the Constitution and claimed that Trump doesn’t know it – while implying Clinton does. He then ripped the Republican presidential nominee’s attacks on Muslims, including the proposed ban of those who practice the religion. It was the highlight of the convention and a rallying call for Democrats.

The irony of this is that Khizr Khan’s son died in a conflict that wasn’t constitutional. The Constitution requires that Congress issue a formal declaration of war before entering and that hasn’t happened since World War II.

To add onto everything, Hillary Clinton voted for the invasion that got his son killed.

It was for this reason, when appearing on the Howie Carr Show, Maine Governor Paul LePage called Khizr Khan a con man.

The mainstream media erupted. The Democrats erupted. Feigned outrage over another political opportunity connected to Khan was at hand. How could Governor LePage attack a Gold Star Father like that?

Looking past LePage’s words, it’s important to address whether Khizr Khan actually is a con man. Is he?

Let’s recap: Khan’s son died in the Iraq conflict, which Hillary Clinton voted for. There was no formal declaration of war, so the conflict was not compliant with the Constitution.

Khizr Khan shows up at the convention celebrating Hillary Clinton and waving around a Constitution, using his son as a political point in slamming Clinton’s opponent in the presidential general election.

The Onion couldn’t have written a better script.

At the very least, Khan is disingenuous in his claim to support the Constitution. His son was killed in a war that not only was fought on questionable grounds, but was also waged without a formal declaration, as required by the Constitution. Despite his claim that he’s not supporting Hillary Clinton, he actually tried to boost her by ignoring her support of the Iraq War and the lack of respect she has for the Constitution. Beyond this, he showed up at her Convention boosting its image and profile, rallying Democrats going into a general election.

Governor LePage is in the right here. Using his son to boost the woman who got the brave soldier killed in an undeclared conflict is wrong.
