Clinton’s Curtain Call Continues: Influence Peddling Scheme Goes Bust

The curtain fell on former First Lady Hillary Clinton’s political career. And with it, so did the Clinton Global Initiative. Not a surprising development for anyone who has paid attention to her presidential campaign and the scandals involving her influence paddling schemes.

According to the New York Observer and Fox, CGI is closing its main New York office, laying off 22 people. But why?

The Initiative is a key portion of the Clinton Foundation. Every year, Fox reports, the organizations hosts an event for world leaders and donors, showcasing the group’s influence and reach. But once emails from key Clinton campaign members were leaked through WikiLeaks, the deep connection between the Clinton Foundation and Clinton’s role as secretary of state under President Barack Obama came under fire. But not from members of her own political organization.

To many Americans of different walks of life, that had been the first time they had learned that Clinton had used her influence in Washington to benefit her donors. It was also the first time many began discussing the U.S. role in the war in Yemen. After all, it was the Madam Secretary herself who managed the U.S. arms deals to the Saudi kingdom — a well-known Clinton Foundation donor.

During the 2016 presidential election, many stories regarding Clinton’s role in the Obama administration surfaced, pitting mainstream America against the Washington D.C. elite. This phenomena may have helped to put President-elect Donald Trump in power. But to many who had been exposed to the secret dealings of the Clintons, relying on Trump still seemed like the wrong alternative. To a great deal of Americans, both options seemed tainted with corruption. But to many others, Clinton’s corruption schemes seemed harmless in comparison.

It’s almost as if individuals who praise president Obama, a man who ran a campaign on a message of hope, change, and peace, forgot all about his actual record. To them, both Clinton and Obama did right by their promise. But they also ignore Libya. Deliberately. More specifically, they ignore Clinton took pride in having a role in taking down a foreign government official. In other words, they ignore that the fall of an entire nation is due entirely to their candidate’s thirst for regime change.

As Libya seemed a success by Clinton’s and Obama’s standards, Syria was meant to come next. With Obama and the then-state secretary huffing and puffing their way to World War III.

“It’s time for [Bashar al] Assad to get out of the way,” secretary Clinton once said. Kick-starting yet another round of U.S. government-backed efforts to disrupt the Syrian leader’s own war against rebels, and hoping to bring him down as a result. In the end, she wasn’t successful. But it wasn’t because her supporters came to their senses. Instead, they began to blame Russian president Vladimir Putin for Clinton’s loss on Election day.

Claiming the U.S. government has evidence of foul play while never being able to produce it, these true believers seem livid when questioned about their candidate’s own history of meddling with foreign affairs. Ignoring reality, they fail to recognize that Clinton used her influence to disrupt the Middle East, covering their ears at the sound of anything that resembles criticism. Truth, it seems, is too harsh for those who are influenced by words but seldom moved by acts.

  • Politics has gotten so stale because there is no competition it is corruption and unacceptable policies from the left which gave us Trump just the lesser evil.
