$29,000 Reasons To Call Donald Trump Supporters Racist?

There has been no shortage of controversy surrounding the Ron Paul inspired activist group Young Americans for Liberty since Cliff Maloney Jr took over as president of the organization. Fresh off his time as leader of the youth arm of the Rand Paul campaign, Cliff took over in May of 2016, and almost immediately became embroiled in controversy. Within only a couple of weeks of Cliff taking over at YAL, National Field Director Ty Hicks posted a message to the YAL Chapter Presidents group demanding that (due in part to his support for Trump) YAL chapters refrain from hosting Milo on campus. This message was framed as an official statement from YAL National. Maloney ultimately retracted this due to the backlash surrounding the decision (though there is still controversy over whether that truly happened), yet this was only the beginning of a string of decision making which would compromise the ability of Young Americans for Liberty to effectively reach out to conservatives and libertarians who supported the Donald Trump… Keep Reading

Rising Liberty Star Eric Brakey Announces Maine US Senate Run

The liberty movement has seen our political momentum stagnate in the past year, and with activist groups all over the country antsy to get back to the work of winning elections it appears a key race for our cause has arisen from the far Northeast, in the old Ron Paul 2012 stronghold of Maine. It is here that state senator Eric Brakey has announced that he is running for US Senate, challenging Independent Angus King for his seat. Brakey will be running on a libertarian platform that has arguably led to his enviable record of winning in traditionally Democrat areas, as he got into office by defeating longtime state Senator John Cleveland with 59% of the vote in 2014. Though he is just 28 years old, Brakey has a long history of experience in the liberty movement, having chaired both the Ron Paul and Rand Paul presidential campaigns in the state of Maine, as well as serving as a RNC delegate to both presidential nominating conventions. Antifa “Doxxes” The Liberty Conservative Writers, Hoppe Caucus

It was very shocking to get on Facebook and see that two of this website’s finest writers, editor Shane Trejo and guest contributor Mitchell Steffen, had their personal information posted by a blogspot website identifying themselves as “Antifa Libertarians”. This is a tactic known as “doxxing”, a public shaming method popularized by the left and amplified greatly by the rise of social media. This was done in retaliation for the coverage provided to the Hoppe Caucus’s event with Richard Spencer by The Liberty Conservative at the International Students for Liberty Conference (ISFLC), and indeed a retaliation towards the people who attended the event for daring to have a conversation. I will not give these morally depraved individuals more traffic by linking to their work, but needless to say this has been passed around the libertarian community in recent days. In addition to Shane and Mitchell, several members of the Hoppe Caucus had their personal information published and even some folks who were totally unaffiliated found themselves in the crossfire… Keep Reading

YAL Leader Promoted After Calling All Trump Supporters Racists

The unfortunate news came Tuesday that Ty Hicks, the Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) National Field Director who declared that all Trump supporters are racist, has been promoted to Executive Vice President of YAL. This news comes on the heels of the election of Donald Trump, who received support from a wide swath of youth activists from across the conservative and libertarian movements, some of whom are YAL activists. The anti establishment wave that swept through the nation this year has energized the right wing in a way that we haven’t seen in a very long time, a position that libertarians should be poised to capitalize on with a bold populist message. Unfortunately, this latest move sends a message that the YAL leadership does not share this vision of the future and is perhaps growing insensitive to the prospect of alienating wide swaths of the conservative movement. To understand how we got here, let’s briefly review the events of recent months. Keep Reading

CRYBULLIES: Cornell Social Justice Warrior’s Heckle, Shout Down Rick Santorum

In an unprecedented act of incivility and rudeness, the Standing Up for Racial Justice chapter at Cornell University shouted down Senator Rick Santorum as he gave a talk regarding conservative values and the 2016 election. Before the Senator even came out on stage it was clear that he was going to be in for a rough owoight, as Cornell College Republicans president Olivia Corn was shouted down and mocked even during the introduction for Senator Santorum. Even as she pleaded for the protestors to be respectful (and was mocked for doing so) the cry bullies refused to relent. They continually yelled things such as “extremism is not conservative” and “what about the unions?” in response to her introduction highlighting the  Senator’s accomplishments. Even as she admonished them to please be respectful, maintaining a poise and integrity that her counterparts clearly lacked, Olivia was subjected to the sort of environment that has kept conservatives silenced on campuses for so long. They continued to interrupt and bully her throughout her introduction, and it got… Keep Reading

WIKILEAKS: Clinton Campaign Manager Has Ties To DNC Instigator

The latest round of emails released from Wikileaks has revealed an email from Mike Lux,  co-founder and president of Progressive Strategies, L.L.C and a former member of the Bill Clinton administration, stating affirmatively that Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook has close ties to Robert Creamer. Creamer is the former DNC member who resigned after it was revealed that he was involved in the inciting of violence at Donald Trump rallies. To review, Project Veritas has been releasing a series of videos where the narrator is having extensive conversations with Creamer, with Creamer revealing many of the dirty tricks that have been used by the DNC during this campaign. The most prominent example is their “bird dogging” tactic, which the campaign has used to instigate confrontations between their activists and Trump supporters. Bird dogging is not always used for violent measures, in fact it is typically a legitimate way for activists to publicly question their representatives. It typically involves activists showing up to an event hours before it takes place so they can… Keep Reading

NOT GUILTY: Oregon Wildlife Refuge Patriots Cleared Of All Charges

In a stunning victory for liberty the seven people who were charged with conspiracy to impede federal workers from doing their jobs, having weapons on federal property and several other crimes were found not guilty on all counts leveled against them. To review for those who do not remember, the Bundy family along with several other patriots occupied an empty building in Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in solidarity with a family (the Hammonds) who were facing prison time over their failure to control a fire that ended up on federal lands (minimal damage was done). The occupiers were persistent in their calls that they had no intentions of inflicting violence towards anybody, and would only defend themselves if the government acted violently towards them. The occupation lasted several weeks, until members of the FBI ambushed the occupiers as several were leaving the ranch to attend a public meeting in another town. During this ambush they shot and killed LaVoy Finicum as his hands were up. Since then it has been revealed that there… Keep Reading

PAY TO PLAY: Clinton Foundation Files Expose Corruption

Zero Hedge has broken the news that, on the heels of the disappointing 3 AM Wikileaks press conference, there was a hack that has resulted in a leak of major information which does in fact have the potential to change the presidential election. Guccifer 2.0, the hacker whose revelations led to the DNC staff resignations on the weekend of their convention, has revealed the presence of a “pay to play” folder in the Clintons Foundations files, something Hillary may have tremendous difficulty in explaining down the line. The “pay to play” allegations have been around for over a year, and this leak seems to justify those who found the list of people she had met with as secretary of state to be all too coincidentally lined up with those who had made public donations to the Clinton foundation. The leak also revealed other fascinating documents which will cause widespread speculation, most notably a document which cross referenced the amount of money a particular bank donated to a congressman with the… Keep Reading

Why I Endorse Writing In Ron Paul For President

We are just 5 weeks away from the general election, in the homestretch of what has been an awful campaign cycle for liberty activists. While there have been very bad cycles in the past, this is the first general election in my personal memory where I found every candidate to be wholly unappealing. Between the failure of the Rand Paul campaign to catch on, the ineptitude of the Johnson/Weld campaign and the general lack of alternative presidential candidates, many liberty conservatives and libertarians find themselves without a candidate who is genuinely deserving of their vote. They find themselves caught between three evils, many attempting to rationalize which is the truly lesser one. So, what is a liberty activist to do when faced with the choice of Gary Johnson, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton? Most libertarians have decided to hold their nose for the Johnson/Weld campaign, a ticket which would produce disastrous consequences if they perform well enough in November to become the standard bearers of the liberty movement. The first major red flags… Keep Reading

The Liberty Conservative Endorses Rebekah Bydlak For Congress

The Liberty Conservative has made many congressional endorsements in the past, though this year we have been saddened at the seemingly low number of true liberty candidates putting themselves out there for congressional runs. Between this and the struggles of the presidential cycle it has been an easy time to feel negatively about the trajectory of the liberty movement. Thankfully, the surprising campaign of Rebekah Bydlak has emerged as a genuine chance to advance our movement through these rough times. At the beginning of this cycle I had regarded this candidate as a long shot, a happy warrior who was going to spread the message but not much more. I could not have possibly been more wrong. Rebekah has raised an impressive amount of money, garnered very impressive endorsements from both inside and outside the liberty movement and has performed very well in the debates. Rebekah has managed to attract the sort of national media attention that most of our candidates have lacked, and her rapidly increasing profile has become perfectly… Keep Reading

Eric Brakey SCHOOLS Neocon War Pigs In EPIC Speech At RNC 2016

One of the negative byproducts of the rise of Trump and the general lack of libertarian involvement since that rise has been a demonstrably less pro liberty delegate slate than what we had in 2012. Fortunately, CSPAN provided us with a breath of fresh air in the form of this impassioned speech from a Liberty Conservative endorsed state senator from Maine, Eric Brakey. Brakey, one of the rising stars of the liberty movement, introduced separate resolutions to condemn the war in Libya as well as remove language from the Republican platform supporting military intervention in Syria. Pointing out that even the presumptive GOP Nominee acknowledged the folly of overthrowing secular dictators and watching them be replaced by radical Islamists, Brakey admonished his fellow delegates for their support of a foreign policy strategy that has consistently grown government while failing to deliver results. “This amendment is basically to clarify what some of the causes of the rise of ISIS are in the Middle East.” Brakey said while introducing the resolution regarding… Keep Reading

LYING TED STRIKES AGAIN: Cruz Votes To Gut 4th Amendment

After the horror of the Orlando night club shooting, which killed over 50 people and injured over 50 more, each party has scrambled to encroach on fundamental Constitutional rights of the American people in an attempt to provide them with a sense of security. On the Democrat side, as we speak, members of the house of representatives are staging a sit in protest over the house GOP’s refusal to replace due process with secret lists as the tool to determine whether or not someone can be denied the right to own a gun.  Unfortunately, on the Republican side we are dealing with a proposal every bit as heinously unconstitutional, a proposal which would grant the FBI warrantless access to the internet records (including web search history, browser history and email metadata) of every American. This assault on our basic constitutional rights was proposed in the aftermath of the Orlando shooting, and represents a sharp turn from the GOP’s recent tendency to look more closely at civil liberties issues, especially after the rise… Keep Reading

Why Milo Yiannopoulos Matters To The Liberty Movement

If you’re a conservative or libertarian who is active on social media, you have likely heard of the latest personality to sweep through the youth culture on the right, Milo Yiannopoulos. Milo, the self-described “Dangerous Faggot”, has made quite a name for himself with his campus tour bearing the “Dangerous Faggot Tour” moniker. His talks generally consist of Milo going to a college, reciting facts and delivering analysis on a variety of topics (whether it be Islam, feminism, immigration, “social justice” or a number of others which are big on campus) and watching the leftists on that campus go absolutely insane trying to shut him down. Whether it was social justice warriors smearing themselves with blood at Rutgers, assaulting Milo at DePaul, blowing air horns at him at Minnesota, interrupting him at colleges such as American University, UCLA and UMass-Amherst, and even blocking the entrance to his talk at UCLA, the left rarely disappoints to prove the exact point Milo is trying to make with their reaction to his talks. Libertarian Party Sells Their Soul, Nominates Johnson/Weld

When the Libertarian Party was founded it was intended to be the party of free markets, civil liberties and a non interventionist foreign policy. Though electoral success was fleeting and sparse, the party quickly grew a reputation as being a party of principle. By nominating dedicated activists activists like David Koch and Ron Paul and Harry Browne to lead their party, the Libertarian Party established the level of dedication placed on being principled in no uncertain terms. With the Ron Paul Revolution having happened in the Republican Party in 2008, one would think this would drive the Libertarian Party to embrace Paul’s hardcore approach to an even greater extent. Unfortunately, we have seen the exact opposite unfold since that 2008 primary. The Libertarian Party responded to the rise of Ron Paul in 2008 by nominating Bob Barr, a former congressman who had supported the Drug Importer Death Penalty Act and voted for invading Iraq, outraging liberty activists across the country. This departure from principle lead to the Libertarian Party receiving just 0.4%… Keep Reading

William Weld Signed Letter Supporting PATRIOT Act

The nomination of former Massachusetts Governor William Weld as the Libertarian Party’s Vice Presidential nominee was not one which was met without controversy. Activists booed Weld throughout the convention and there even had to be a second ballot to ultimately confirm him as Vice President. This was due to Weld’s positions on spending, gun control, war, the EPA and a host of other issues. That being said, this author has discovered something which was not brought up during the fight over Weld’s nomination and is an absolutely damning position for anybody who claims to care about the 4th amendment. In 2005, as a debate over the renewal of the PATRIOT Act waged in the Senate, notorious neocon Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy authored a letter urging renewal of the law which was signed by over 50 members of the national security establishment. This included men such as John Ashcroft, Frank Gaffney, James Woolsey and…..yes, newly crowned Libertarian Party Vice Presidential nominee William Weld. The letter specifically cited… Keep Reading

PARTY REVOLT: Delegate Straw Poll Places Gary Johnson Nomination In Doubt

The Liberty  Conservative has just received a photo from an anonymous delegate at the Libertarian National Convention in Orlando, where the Libertarian Party’s 2016 Presidential nominee is being selected. This photo is of the final results of the straw poll taken of the delegates to determine who will make the debate stage for tonight’s CSPAN Debate. With the cut off having been in the mid 80’s for entry, there will be five candidates on the stage. That being said, what is more interesting about these results is Gary Johnson’s underwhelming performance in the straw poll. This was a poll exclusively of delegates to the convention, and Johnson received 226 out of 747 votes for a 30.2% share of the vote. For a candidate who the media has reported to have 60%+ of the delegates backing him that is a huge red flag. Students For Rand Director Cliff Maloney To Lead Young Americans For Liberty

The liberty movement received very exciting news today, as Cliff Maloney Jr announced that he has been promoted to the Executive Director position at Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), the largest libertarian youth organization in the country. Students for Rand was one of the parts of the campaign that worked best, organizing over 500 chapters and creating a nationwide campus apparatus. Before this Cliff was a regional director for YAL after having been the Pennsylvania state chairman in 2011-2012. Young Americans for Liberty is the largest and fastest growing campus liberty organization in the country. Where We Go From Here: The Rising Stars Of The Liberty Movement

Donald Trump has, in the last two weeks, wrapped up the 2016 Republican presidential nomination and ensured what many are calling “the worst election of our lifetimes” by making this a Trump vs Clinton election. After all, this is objectively the toughest moment we’ve faced as a movement since Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential run sparked years of constant growth. That being said, rather than focus on the disastrous state of the Presidential election, liberty activists may find more optimism and opportunity in looking down ballot at the potential liberty leaders of the future. That being said, a new scandal has broken which may complicate Austin’s outreach to conservative voters. Photos of what is allegedly Petersen’s account on “SugarDaddie.com“, a website which aims to help attractive young women find a “sugar daddy”, have been provided by an anonymous source to Liberty Conservatives. A “sugar daddy” is defined by Urban Dictionary as “A man who provides money or other favors in exchange for sexual relations”. What Went Wrong With Rand Paul 2016

It has been a little over a month since Kentucky Senator Rand Paul dropped out of the presidential race, but for liberty activists across the country it has seemed like an eternity as we watch what has become a very depressing primary process unfolding. At this point most in the liberty movement are simply trying to gain a sense of what happened and how to fix it. Some have argued that this was the cycle of Trump and there was absolutely nothing that we could have done to change the outcome in the end, and that even Ron Paul would have run into a similar fate. While I believe there is some truth to the idea that Trump would have always won in the end, there is no doubt that mistakes were made on the campaign trail  and build up to the campaign which prevented us from galvanizing the sort of donor base, social media prevalence and grassroots engagement that set Ron Paul’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns apart. Ted Cruz’s 10 Biggest Flip Flops

That being said, libertarians and conservatives deserve to know the whole story, and Cruz has had a series of flip flops on several important issues which may cause some to question the sincerity of his positions. Ted Cruz Doesn’t Read CISA, Votes For It Anyways

Civil liberties advocates such as the ACLU, Rand Paul and a slew of major tech companies such as Google and Apple have come out against CISA, arguing that it essentially amounts to government surveillance. Though no explanation has come from Cruz’s office, it is a vote that is likely to stun many of his supporters. This is contrary to Cruz’s stated support of internet freedom, having campaigned on the issue both very recently and extensively throughout the primary season. Ted Cruz’s Faux Liberty Takeover

There has recently been a string of press detailing Ted Cruz’s attempts to poach Liberty minded voters from libertarian Republican candidate Rand Paul. Former Liberty Iowa Executive Director Adil Khan put together a chart demonstrating just the opposite. The Indefinite Detention Of Kim Davis: Liberty Litmus Test

If you have engaged in social media discussions over the weekend with politically active friends, you have almost undoubtedly come across the situation with Rowan County, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis and her refusal to issue marriage licenses. Though I certainly do not consider myself to be an authority on libertarianism, I have been in the liberty movement for several years and have spent a lot of time thinking over both the movements principles as well as this particular case. “The NSA Knows I Bought This Rand Paul TShirt”

Rand Paul Opposes Obama Fast Track Authority, Cruz & Rubio In Favor

Paul told WMUR.com that “the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement ‘is being held under lock and key’ by the Obama administration ‘because they’re afraid that if the public knows what we are going to vote on, that somehow that would destroy the republic.'” This is a move that builds on Paul’s long record of being an advocate of US sovereignty, notably being the most anti-UN candidate in the race. Paul Goes After Clinton In #LibertyNotHillary Campaign

Senator Rand Paul became the first candidate to launch a direct attack on Hillary Clinton Sunday morning, releasing an ad excoriating her as “the worst of the Washington machine”. The ad claimed that the “Washington Machine is destroying the American dream”, and admonishes Hillary Clinton’s arrogance and corruption. The ad then takes a dramatic turn, claiming “it is time for a new leader and a new way” before launching into a list of policy proposals which Paul would enact as president, set to a clip of his recent announcement in Louisville, Kentucky. This ad no doubt attempts to play to Paul’s electability argument, attempting to convince Republican Primary voters that he is the man who can defeat Hillary Clinton. The ad certainly hits Clinton hard and will no doubt hook Republican Primary voters in with the charges it levies against her in the first 25 seconds. Paul’s attempt to leap the primary field and go straight to a general election attack is a departure from the strategies employed by… Keep Reading

Rand Paul: With The Help Of Liberty Lovers Everywhere, I Am Running For President

Senator Rand Paul made official today what most of us have been anticipating for a long time, declaring his intentions to run for President of the United States. Paul spoke in front of a raucous crowd of his vision for America, outlining several bold proposals in his 25 minute speech. Paul spoke of a need to elect somebody who would not dilute their principles, and of the need to elect a candidate who would stand up to the Washington machine. The most notable thing about Paul’s speech was the number of policy proposals he spoke of in the duration of it, a notable contrast to Senator Ted Cruz’s red meat filled announcement. Particularly ambitious were the proposals outlined for criminal justice reform, with Paul stating “I see an America where criminal justice is applied equally, and any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed.” Paul spoke of an undercurrent of unease in the country which would be better restored by policies which advanced liberty, and of his… Keep Reading

Youth-Driven #LibertyKaraoke To Host 50+ Events For Rand Paul Announcement

Youth-Driven #LibertyKaraoke to Host 50+ Events for Rand Paul for President Announcement Grassroots Effort Hopes to Engage Young Voters Across the U.S. ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – Young supporters of Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who is expected to announce his 2016 presidential campaign on Tuesday, April 7, will host #LibertyKaraoke fundraising events in at least 50 cities across the United States the evening of Paul’s announcement. “I think Senator Paul is uniquely positioned to capture the youth vote for the Republican Party for the first time since 1988,” said Matthew Hurtt, an organizer who helped launch #LibertyKaraoke in Arlington in 2013. “It is my hope that these events excite young people and give them a venue to support Senator Paul’s campaign financially.” #LibertyKaraoke started unofficially as a weekly gathering place for young liberty activists in the D.C.-area more than five years ago. During the 2014 cycle, Hurtt monetized the events and targeted pro-liberty candidates for Congress, raising more than $20,000 for Reps. Justin Amash (MI-03) and Thomas Massie (KY-04), as well… Keep Reading

Paulonomics: Rand’s Plan For An Economic Boom

The 2016 race has begun to heat up in recent days for the Rand Paul campaign, with several key hires having been made and an April 7th announcement date scheduled to declare his candidacy for president. With over a dozen rivals expected to challenge Paul for the Republican nomination, one of his major challenges is going to be convincing the American people that he is the man with the vision to restore American greatness. Fortunately for his libertarian fans, Rand Paul has a budget plan that would cause an economic boom by utilizing core economic principles that conservatives and libertarians alike agree on. This bold vision for America would create millions of jobs by instituting the first real spending cut we have seen since World War 2 ended, a major tax cut that would leave billions of dollars in the economy, and a regulatory reform plan that would simplify the process of dealing with a treacherous federal government for American families, businesses and individuals everywhere. The budget begins with… Keep Reading

Tompkins County GOP: “Ditch Mitch McConnell And John Boehner”

The Tompkins County GOP Executive Committee has issued a vote of no confidence in the leadership of House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The resolution states that the party “Has no confidence in the “leadership” of House Speaker Boehner and Senate Majority Leader McConnell, and requests the respective Republican congressional caucuses to move to substitute new leaders who will vigorously contest the President’s and executive branch’s unconstitutional or overreaching executive orders and actions.” As one of the ring leaders of the resolution who debated passionately in favor of it, this author can attest to what a major victory it was to pass this resolution. This no confidence vote sends a message that is loud and clear. A message that should resonate with Republicans across the state and the country. We demand that our elected officials abide by the Constitution and the Republican Platform. This resolution was a major win for conservative activists who have been fighting hard against the GOP establishment, and I hope it… Keep Reading

15 Things To Watch For At CPAC 2015

1. Will Rand Paul 3-peat, and by how much? Senator Rand Paul has had a very good showing at his first two CPAC conferences as a potential presidential candidate. Paul won the conferences annual straw poll narrowly over Marco Rubio 25-23% in 2013, and ran away with the straw poll in 2014 with 31% of the vote, nearly triple the 11% 2nd place finisher Ted Cruz. These performances make Paul the clear favorite to win the poll, and anything less than that would be seen as a loss for the senator in his 2016 presidential campaign. 2. Can Scott Walker capitalize on recent momentum? If there has been one major shift in the early landscape of the 2016 elections, it has been the emergence of Scott Walker as a major contender for the nomination. He is polling very well in the early states as well as nationally, and at CPAC 2015 Walker will have a serious chance to continue his positive momentum with a strong showing. His showing at… Keep Reading

Rand Paul Taps Liberty Movement Leader As Iowa Political Director

Sen. Rand Paul’s 2016 presidential campaign, which in recent months has gone from being a strong possibility to a near certainty, has hired a new political director to conduct operations in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa. Jonathan Van Norman, who served as former Rep. Ron Paul’s regional director in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District during his 2012 presidential run, will join an Iowa campaign team which is already staffed with several big names such as former Iowa Republican Party chairmen Steve Grubbs and AJ Spiker. In addition to his work for Ron Paul 2012, Van Norman’s impressive resume includes Liberty For All (a political action committee which proved crucial for Thomas Massie’s 2012 victory), the National Right To Work Committee, and most recently as a Regional Field Director for the Republican Party of Kentucky. “Jonathan Van Norman comes highly recommended, especially for the good work he did with Ron Paul in 2012. AJ Spiker said he has a great work ethic and people like to work with him. Assuming… Keep Reading

Ted Cruz Flip Flops On Marijuana

The weekend of the Iowa Freedom Summit was seen by many as the unofficial kickoff of the 2016 Iowa Caucuses, and Ted Cruz was in full campaign mode. Before delivering a rousing speech to a raucous crowd at the summit, Cruz took some time to meet with activists from Liberty Iowa, a group founded after Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential campaign, to answer questions on a variety of issues. Cruz challenged the group to throw him “no softballs”, and they engaged in a back and forth that lasted about two hours. The meeting went by largely without disagreement, or with only expected disagreements on things like Iran. That being said, one interesting moment occurred when Cruz appeared to flip flop on his stance that President Obama must enforce marijuana laws in Colorado and Washington. When asked about this stance, Cruz claimed that he never took the position to begin with, and had been talking about Eric Holder’s instruction to not prosecute for small amounts of marijuana. Cruz claimed that his… Keep Reading

“Tax Hike” Mike Huckabee: Too Liberal For Conservatives?

The 2015 political season kicked off with a bombshell hitting the 2016 GOP Primary field, with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee announcing that he would be leaving his Fox News program to explore a run for president. This announcement comes at a time when the GOP primary field is as convoluted as ever, and many conservatives are praying for an alternative to establishment Republican Jeb Bush, who has been narrowly leading the field in most recent national polling. That being said, conservatives who have come to love Huckabee’s likable posture on television and identify with him over years of watching him on Fox News (an advantage that will certainly help him in his run) may be forgetting a disturbing pattern of liberal positions he took, new taxes he imposed and big spending bills that he signed into law as governor. Considering the fact that Huckabee has not run since 2008, a time when the GOP was far less conservative than it is today, there is reason to believe that… Keep Reading

“War On Women” Charge Draws Laughs, Ridicule From Debate Crowd

This past Thursday, I had the privilege of attending the New York 23rd Congressional District debate, featuring Republican incumbent Tom Reed and his challenger, Democrat Martha Robertson. I arrived to the debate an hour prior at the request of my county GOP chair, and was surprised to arrive at an absolute spectacle. Several hundred supporters had already descended upon the arena, both sides being very well represented, though the Republican incumbent had a clear edge in numbers. As we stood in the hallway a group of snide looking college liberals stood to the side, chanting “a vote for Reed is a vote for greed”. The majority Reed crowd immediately responded by chanting “Tom Reed! Tom Reed!”, setting off a frenzy and prompting one of the organizers to call for a calm entrance into the arena. It turned out that it was a good thing for me to have gotten there so early, because the room to accommodate audience members was maybe 300 people large, and well over half of those… Keep Reading

Ben Carson: Counterfeit Conservative

If you are a member of the conservative movement who has been paying even a modicum of attention, you have no doubt noticed the rise of the “Draft Ben Carson for President” movement. The group made their first major statement by coming in 3rd place in the CPAC 2014 straw poll, just 2 points behind the 2nd place finisher, Texas senator Ted Cruz. Carson beat out well organized, well known names such as Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, Rick Santorum and Marco Rubio for the third place finish. Since that point, Carson and his loyal group of followers have begun to create quite a wave within our movement, winning straw polls (on the FreedomWorks Online Straw Poll he is currently in 1st place) and raising millions of dollars in the process. Anybody who listens to Sean Hannity has undoubtedly heard the “Run, Ben, Run!” commercials on his radio show, and anybody who goes on comment threads online cannot possibly deny Carson’s reach and influence. Despite all of this excitement around… Keep Reading

Perry Gets It Wrong On Reagan

With the 2016 presidential primary races seemingly just around the corner, one new face that has begun to emerge on the Sunday shows and all over the political commentary sites as of late has been Rick Perry. Perry seemingly began to lay the groundwork for a 2016 bid with a rousing speech at CPAC, where he literally brought the entire room to their feet with an impassioned cry to get the US economy back on track, and has followed this up recently with his high profile meetings surrounding immigration with President Obama. Perry has begun to capitalize on this publicity by attempting to stake out his position in the 2016 field, and in a recent Washington Post article Perry took several shots at the foreign policy of current GOP frontrunner Rand Paul. Among these shots was the declaration that Rand gets the Ronald Reagan record on foreign policy wrong. Perry claims that Reagan confronted the Soviet Union in every theater (including, supposedly, on the battlefield) and paints a very confrontational picture of the Reagan… Keep Reading

Rand Paul: The Most Conservative, The Most Electable

It may seem rather unbelievable, but we are only 7-8 months away from the 2016 primaries starting to ramp up, with several candidates saying they will begin to make their decisions in early 2015. Though we have the most wide open field the Republican Party has ever seen at this juncture, it would not be a stretch to say that Rand Paul is the current frontrunner for the GOP nomination. Indeed, through all of his recent actions Paul is showing both the vision and the ability to put together the kind of organization that is necessary for him to win the nomination and the presidency. This has given libertarians and constitutional conservatives alike plenty of reason to be excited for the future.   Though the polling can obviously change, as it stands in late June Rand Paul is leading the plurality of early national polls for the GOP nomination. Both the latest CNN/Opinion Research and ABC News/Wash Post polls have Paul winning by 2 points and 1 point, respectively,… Keep Reading

How Standing With Rand Has Broadened The Liberty Movement

Recently Steve Deace, a man for whom I have tremendous respect and admiration, had some very poignant questions as to Rand Paul’s commitment to upholding liberty principles. As a person in the liberty movement who supported Ron Paul and now Stands with Rand with conviction that runs just as deep, I had some immediate thoughts on how to answer the questions posed. Deace asks of the liberty movement “Is it a movement to advance a slate of issues/principles, or is it a movement intended to get Rand Paul elected the next president of the United States? The truth is if it’s the latter, that’s precisely how Rand will never win—as the civil rights and Religious Right movements of yesteryear can now attest. Once the acquisition of power replaces the mission the vision becomes compromised, and so does the movement.” I would start by stating, unequivocally, that the liberty movement is not about one man nor has it ever been, despite how the media attempted to portray us as the “cult of… Keep Reading
