Showdown In Pikeville, Kentucky

On April 29, the Traditional Workers Party, joined by the League of the South and other right-wing factions, held a rally in Pikeville, Kentucky. It was, as one would expect, met with much controversy and counter-protest. This rally was only a portion of a weekend-long conference which included sessions on various topics, such as national socialist ideology and self-defense. The event had been planned since February, with several counter-protests planned shortly after the TWP announced its intended presence; merely a couple of days before the event, however, most official efforts to counter the national socialists were canceled due to security concerns. As everyone has learned in recent months, though, Antifa can always be counted on to show up to any form of right-wing demonstration, apparently even in small-town, rural Kentucky. Interesting enough, neither they nor the TWP seemed to have any locals within their ranks and were largely from out of town. This was understandably frowned upon by locals. “We wish everyone would go home peacefully and give our… Keep Reading

Turning Point Launches New Expansion Into Canada

In the wake of the upcoming Conservative Party of Canada leadership election, Chicago-based conservative youth organization Turning Point USA has announced a groundbreaking expansion into Canada. Several Turning Point staffers with extensive knowledge of the new project spoke exclusively to The Liberty Conservative regarding it. Joshua Thifault, Advancement Director at Turning Point USA, said TP Canada’s launch was spurred by popular demand: “Turning Point Canada came about because so many Canadian students asked us to make resources available to them.” Keep Reading

Did One Of Gary Johnson’s High Profile Endorsements Actually Vote For Donald Trump?

The New York Times recently interviewed venture capitalist and Trump adviser Peter Thiel, a figure well known to many in the liberty movement for his support for Ron Paul’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns. During the interview, Thiel recounted a discussion with an individual who claimed to be supporting Donald Trump in private, while aligning himself with Gary Johnson in public: “I was having dinner last week with a high-profile venture capitalist and he said, ‘I’m voting for Trump but I have to lie and tell everyone I’m voting for Gary Johnson,’” the third-party candidate, said Mr. Thiel. “He was stunningly matter-of-fact about it.” Although the individual Thiel had dinner with remains anonymous, his description of a “high-profile venture capitalist” who publicly stated he would vote for Gary Johnson, but has shown many pro-Trump sympathies, seems to suggest that the individual is Palmer Luckey, though this cannot at this point be confirmed. The Daily Beast reported in September that Luckey, an entrepreneur and the co-founder of Oculus VR, an acclaimed… Keep Reading

Ted Cruz Should Be Every Ron Paul Supporters’ Second Choice

Rand Paul is without doubt my first choice for the presidency. As the most libertarian member of the United States Senate, and the son of Ron Paul, Rand is strongly deserving of our support and I wholeheartedly endorse him for President of the United States. However, should he be unsuccessful in his presidential campaign and choose to leave the race at any time in the next few months, we should keep our options open, for there is clearly another candidate in the race with strong liberty credentials. 1. Ted Cruz is one of the most fiscally conservative members of the United States Senate. He boasts a 98% lifetime score from FreedomWorks and a 96% lifetime score from the Club for Growth. He has consistently voted for spending cuts and lowering taxes, and has repeatedly stood up to the establishment’s last-minute deals that do nothing more than increase the national debt. Whilst it is fair to criticize him on the very few occasions where he has not stuck to his core free market  principles, the… Keep Reading

The Absurd Attack On Rand Paul Via Association With Judge Napolitano

The leftist website Media Matters has published a hit piece on Kentucky GOP Senator Rand Paul. In the article they attempt to smear Senator Paul by exposing his relationship with Fox News Contributor and former New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano. Senator Paul wrote the foreword for Judge Napolitano’s new book, Suicide Pact: The Radical Expansion of Presidential Powers and the Assault on Civil Liberties. Media Matters claims that Napolitano is dangerous because he is a “9/11 Truther” and Confederate apologist. By smearing Napolitano, they’re trying to tarnish Paul. But there is one problem: the claims against Napolitano are mostly nonsense.     Here at Lions of Liberty we haven’t held back from criticizing Senator Paul when he has strayed from libertarian principles, which he does with increasing frequency. There’s nothing wrong with criticizing a politician, but it should be done based on their policy and character, not by manufacturing controversies. Let’s review the claims against Napolitano and by association Paul, which links them both to the 9-11 Truther movement because… Keep Reading

Listen Or Ignore The Voices?

In our daily lives, we hear thousands of voices. They come from TV, the internet, our family, our friends, our churches, and every other place where we have interaction with others. Everyone has their opinion on how we should think or what we should believe. Who do we listen to? You may come across a few different types of people in your day to day interactions. There are those who basically parrot whatever their preferred source for opinion is. Whether they get their opinion from Bill O’Reilly, John Stewart, or even a good source it is obvious they just repeat what they are told to think without much critical thought. Buzz words are usually a generous portion of their argument, and logical fallacies are contained in their comebacks (for more on logical fallacies click here). Strive to not be one of those people. Spend some time on introspection to determine whether you have any depth or originality to your opinions. Next are the people who watch Fox News and… Keep Reading

A True Liberty Conservative

Dr. Dave Brat truly embodies what it means to be a Liberty Conservative. This libertarian-leaning economics professor, Tea Party activist and family man recently achieved the greatest political upset of the decade in a historic primary challenge against the third most powerful elected Republican in the United States, Eric Cantor, and his $2 million war chest. Brat has humble roots. He grew up a devout Protestant in Detroit, the son of a medical doctor and a social worker. He then travelled to Virginia and Princeton for college and earned degrees in divinity and business administration along with a doctorate in economics, before going on to serve as a professor at a liberal arts college in Richmond, where he stood true to his faith in God and the free market, despite strong intellectual opposition from the collegiate elite. He was finally appointed to advise Virginia Governor Tim Kaine on economic policy, a surprising move for a liberal Democrat such as Kaine. While by no means a radical, Brat is an… Keep Reading
